In 1872, Bihor County Society of Archaeology and History began its activity, later proposing the creation of a museum of Bihor. After sustained efforts of the authorities in Oradea, in 1896, the first building specially designed to host a museum was inaugurated in Oradea. The eclectic building was completed in 1895 by architect Rimanóczy Kálman Sr.

Archaeology, history, and ethnography objects were displayed inside the nine rooms dedicated to the main exhibition. As the political, social, and cultural context changed, the museum gathered more and more objects in the archaeology, art, and ethnography collections. Thus, on January 17, 1971, Țării Crișurilor Museum, one of the largest pavilion museums in Romania, opened its doors. The building impresses the eyes of visitors due to its eclectic style.
After almost 125 years of existence, Țării Crișurilor Museum continues to gather valuable objects and evidence of the turbulent history of Western Romania (a land populated over time by Romanians, Hungarians, Slovaks, Swabians and other people).
