Under rehabilitation process, the Museum of Freemasonry will soon become an attraction for fans of secret societies!

On Universității Street, at number 4, there is a building that will surely catch your interest, due to the mystical air surrounding it. If you look closely, you will be able to intuit that it is the building that housed, for almost half a century, the Masonic Lodge "Saint Ladislaus". According to the tradition of the secret society, the eclectic construction’s architects and builders were two members of the Masonic Lodge of Budapest, Bálint Zoltán and Jámbor János.

Find out the secrets of the Museum of Freemasonry!

Without being an imposing or massive construction, it draws the attention of architecture lovers because it is the only building in the city built according to the strict Masonic style. Therefore, the façade completely lacks windows, having only a well-marked portico. It is bordered by 2 side pillars, and in the centre, you can see 2 columns finished in sober Doric capitals, in the spirit of ancient Greek temples. The upper part of the portico includes neoclassical elements combined with the specific ornamentations of Freemasonry.

The mysterious character of the building is also supported by the presence of the 8 sphinxes on the roof, with the role of protecting the members of the society from evil spirits.

In the next period, the façade will be completely restored, the rooms will be divided, and the mural paintings will be restored. In addition, interventions in the ventilation and air conditioning systems will be made, and the sanitary and electrical systems will be improved.
