5 new parks, 5 new green corridors of 12 hectares, 8 million euros investment, 1.400 planted trees, 16.000 shrubs
The green heritage of Oradea will be enriched in the next period with five green corridors, with a total area of 12 hectares. They will be financed from European funds, worth about 8 million euros, and the new parks will be arranged on degraded land in the city. Along the green corridor on Barcăului Street, where the works started last year, four other green areas will be built: Soarelui, Veteranilor, Ion Bogdan and Grigorescu, all these with a total area of 12 hectares, as already announced at a press conference.
In all 5 new parks, about 1.400 medium and large trees will be planted, plus 16.400 shrubs. Some of the trees will be planted in spring, on the green corridor of Barcăului, Veteranilor and Soarelui, and on the other two, in Grigorescu and Ion Bogdan, the plantings will be done in autumn. Oradea City Hall has also contracted the planting of another 1.000 large trees so that this year more than 2.400 trees will be planted in the city, and within the partnership between Oradea City Hall and the Forest Guard, the afforestation of another approximately 65 ha in the city will follow. Also, this year, work will begin with the rehabilitation of December 1st and Pétofi Parks, which will see European-like features to make them more attractive to visitors.
Compared to the number of inhabitants, Oradea is proud of 25 square meters of green space for each inhabitant, a figure that places our city in the first places among cities in Romania. It is one of the main reasons why Oradea received the title of Green Capital in 2011.
